The course consists of both theory and practical sessions, but the emphasis is on imparting skills to the new brigade member that will help him or her in the future.
Brigade members then have the oppurtunity to go on to more advanced training courses (Level Two and Level Three) or a number of specialized courses (Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus, Road Accident Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Senior First Aid, Officers A and Officers B Courses) depending on available placements.
Personal protective clothing (boots, overalls, helmets, gloves) are issued to brigade members but remain the property of the brigade.
The CFS is an equal oppurtunity organization and all are welcome to join. You must be 11 years old to be a Cadet Fire-fighter and 16 years old to be a Fire-fighter or Support Personnel. Because the nature of firefighting can be physically demanding, a certain standard of physical fitness will be required to become an active fire-fighter. However, there are a wide range of support roles which are equally important in the operation of the brigade, so there is a place for everyone.
If you live in Montacute (or nearby) and would like to join the Montacute CFS Brigade, then please contact the Administration Officer at the adress listed below. For information on the location of other CFS Brigades near you, contact the CFS Promotions Unit .
