A RAGTIME COMPENDIUM

Welcome to Version 9 (30th June, 2008)

You’ve accessed the data before so you know the score.   I suggest you download the Notes also as there are additional sources and MIDI sites since Version 8.

Line numbers differ from Version 8 (and also from earlier versions) due to both additions and a few deletions.  Where there have been changes since Version 8 (added renditions, typos, variations to composer details, etc) the particular data is bolded in the spreadsheet.   New MIDI sources for individual titles are also bolded.

Major sources for Version 9 have been a comprehensive review against Tom Brier's personal data base and the significant volume of MIDIs produced by Dr James Pitt-Payne.   There are also about 150 MIDIs of original compositions from Hiawatha & Rudolf Ragna.   As usual, Rob Crausaz, Benjamin Intartaglia and Luigi Ranalli have kept feeding material to me.   Once again there has been rigorous web searching for missing data, with various public and University libraries providing valuable evidence.

Statistics for Version 9

  • 1,890 corrections (a lot are Type).

  • 782 new titles (and again a few dropped out).   The total is now 14,483 titles.
  • At least 990 new MIDI renditions listed, many being the only MIDI we have found of a particular title.   The total number of titles with public domain or available MIDIs is now 4,755.

On my hard drive I have a copy of almost every MIDI cited and I can help fellow enthusiasts with copies of most.   Particularly I offer 2 CD’s – one of all the MIDIs cited as 'new in Version 9' (USD 15 posted anywhere in the world) and one of 'a version of each title for which a MIDI is listed' (also USD 15 posted anywhere in the world).   A RAGTIME COMPENDIUM is not, and never has been, 'commercial' so the prices reflect only the copying effort and freight.  If you would like to receive either of these please access me and I will explain how to remit.
