GENERAL
NOTICES

From Alex:
"Three things they lacked, but later grew in" In today's gospel reading , Mark 9: 14 - 37, we hear of how the disciples lacked three things. These men later grew and matured, and so this encourages any of us if we feel we fall short! The Lord hasn't finished with us yet! Let's keep believing in him and looking to him. What were these three things they laced? Power, understanding and humility. Power for their Christian life and witness. Why did they lack it? Jesus directed them back to prayer and faith in him as the answer to their need. Understanding - they didn't grasp the gospel at this stage, and were afraid to ask. We today have their later understanding in the rest of the New Testament scriptures as they teach in and by the Spirit, so there's not need for us to lack understanding - if we ask, and seek in the scriptures. Humility - they were too concerned about their self-importance. Jesus corrected their thinking about greatness. That's a lesson for all of us too. Alex. Prayer for Worship: I am calling people to join me each Sunday in the Chapel Room for 15 minutes of prayer for our Sunday worship and the ministry of God's word, starting today, Pentecost Sunday. If the worship at St. Augustine's with an 8.00am service, I will be in the Chapel by 7.30am; if it is a 9.00am service, I will be in Chapel by 8.30am. Prayer together can be a power-house for God's church. Let us depend on God! Alex's sermons are recorded now on a digital recorder, so they can be available to people if wished. Please speak to Brenton McLean, thank you. "When the candles are lit, the lips are zipped". This little saying was given to me recently and I share it with you to remind us of the value of quietness with God in church for a few minutes as we await the commencement of worship. |

For all those who have served - and do serve - God's mission through ABM. Pray for the ABM Auxiliary. Please keep the people and the Anglican Church of the province of Myanmar (CPM) in your prayers. Reflections: Interesting. The words of eternal life are freely offered and some people choose to walk away. Perhaps the truth is that the Good News is only "good" if we can let go of the past and have vision for the future. To embrace Christ means looking ahead. The problem is that the past is almost always more comfortable. (Anglican Board of Mission weekly Pew Reflections 2009) For CMS Africa: "Loving Father, we thank you that your kingdom is thriving among the peoples of Africa, in spite of great poverty and huge political and social problems. Amen". The CMS Members, Link Churches and Branch Support Ministries: Margaret Holt and Doreen Rushbrook. For Andy and Jenny Bennett-missionaries working with CMS and Lyn Barnes in Tanzania. (CMS) For Regional gatherings held in Sydney, Newcastle and Canberra that they may encourage people to understand the work we do and support it BCA Prayer notes. For the Bible Society. For local Pastoral Care Workers in Schools: Wendy Huntington, Mt. Compass; Ross Fairbank, Chaplain, Mt. Compass School; Maureen Moore, Victor Harbor; Bronwyn Lang, Victor Harbor. GOD AND FATHER OF ALL, YOU
HAVE TAUGHT US THROUGH YOUR SON THAT THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST, AND HAVE MADE A
LITTLE CHILD THE MEASURE OF YOUR KINGDOM: GIVE US THE WISDOM FROM ABOVE,
SO THAT WE MAY UNDERSTAND THAT IN YOUR SIGHT THE ONE WHO SERVES IS THE GREATEST
OF ALL. WE ASK THIS THROUGH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, WHO LIVES AND REIGNS
WITH YOU IN HE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, ONE GOD, FOR EVER AND EVER. AMEN.
