Koltz The Wizard Shiraz
The Wizard is made in the Ripasso method developed in Valpolicella in northern Italy. After the making of our amarone style wine, The Pagan, we retain the skins from the Pagan and then select our best batches of shiraz from the vintage and referment it over those skins. The technique is used to give the wines more depth and usually results in velvety fine tannin structure.
The Wizard normally spends around 3 weeks on the Pagan skins and is then repressed using our basket press.
The 2009 Wizard is a full bodied yet finely structured wine with lovely tannins and a velvety, creamy palate. On the nose the amarone style shows through with strong blue fruit characters.
